The experience of losses—the death of loved ones, the loss of relationships or life pursuits, the closing of a chapter in one’s journey—is a profoundly spiritual experience. As much as people might wish to distract themselves from the pain of grief, it has a profound way to prompt individuals to explore the larger questions in life. Person-centered spiritual consultation creates a safe place in which clients can allow themselves to listen to the depths of their pain, express it, and engage actively in their inner dialogue that is prompted by grief. It may take the form of reflecting and sharing about what they miss because of their losses, the conversations they wish they could have with loved ones who are no longer present, life meanings revealed in grief, or the wisdom they have learned in grief and how to apply that wisdom to their current choices in life.
